Riverfront Park – Salem, OR
In the recent Riverfront Park project, Romtec supplied and installed a new restroom structure with our “Turnkey” services for the City of Salem, Oregon.
After an initial meeting at the Oregon Recreation & Park Association conference, the City of Salem came to us for the design, supply, and turnkey installation of a Romtec restroom for Riverfront Park, “the City’s premier urban event park, located along the Willamette River and in close proximity to businesses, restaurants, entertainment, and other parks and trails”. Riverfront Park currently includes 26-acres and is home to Salem’s beautiful Riverfront Carousel, the A.C. Gilbert Discovery Village, a pedestrian bridge to Minto Island, a winter ice rink, and more. The new Romtec restroom structure for the park includes 8 individual unisex restrooms, two of which are American Disability Act (ADA) compliant. The restrooms are evenly divided on each side of the building, and a central mechanical room allows easy access to the plumbing for maintenance. The building is composed of smooth face and split face gray block; the split face blocks are exposed around the bottom of the structure as a wainscot, and the smooth face blocks are topped with a thin brick siding by H.C Muddox for an aesthetic variety in finish, texture, and color.
The block, finishes, and exterior appearance of the structure matches the existing structures in the area to create a more unified and consistent look to the park and make the building easily recognizable to park guests. This includes the urban bronze color of the exterior metal components including the doors, door frames, and vents located above each restroom and in the gable ends of the structure.
Inside of each restroom, guests can utilize the hardy stainless-steel toilets and sinks, both of which are motion activated with motion sensor flushometers and faucets, respectively. Motion sensors are an easy way to make a restroom more accessible and prevent the spread of germs, important considerations in a popular park such as this. The two ADA compliant restrooms in this structure also feature diaper decks for parents to tend to their children’s needs when enjoying long days of fun and discovery at the park.
Riverfront Park is a large and impactful part of the community, and Romtec is happy to have been able to provide a restroom facility to help serve park guests. The park provides a retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, protects the waterfront for all to enjoy, has numerous opportunities to stimulate the minds of growing children, and is close to restaurants and shops for residents and guests to meet all of their needs and desires in the heart of Salem.
