Hayward is a city in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area that connects to the west side of the bay by the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge on State Route 92.
Hayward is in Alameda County and with a population of almost 163,000 it’s the sixth largest city in the Bay Area. The city has a history in food canning and salt production.
The city is home to Eden Landing Ecological Reserve, Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center, San Lorenzo Community Center Park, and Meek Estate Park.
In the Bay Area of California, the Meek Mansion is in Meek Estate Park which stands as a testament to the arrival of agriculture in Alameda County. Meek Estate Park is managed by the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District which contacted Romtec to provide a restroom and multi-use room building for Meek Estate Park.
Meek Mansion was built in 1869 by William Meek who was a pioneer of the commercial agriculture industry.
Meek Estate Park is the grounds of the historic Meek Mansion that has play structures, picnic tables, open lawn areas, restrooms, and the historic building. The Meek Mansion hosts weddings on the north lawn area of the mansion which has a garden and gazebo along with other features.
In homage to this history, Romtec designed the restroom building to match the white walls and red gable roofs of the Meek Mansion. Romtec’s building serves as an ADA restroom while also providing storage and a multi-use room for visitors of the park to use.
The restroom building features red gable roofs, cedar shake roofing, wood double-hung windows, a storage room, Hardie plank lap siding, and skylights. This beautiful restroom building matches the aesthetic of the Meek Mansion and showcases how Romtec can match a specific theme or a building.
