Romtec supplies structures for parks of all kinds, from wide open sports fields and playgrounds to splashpad water parks and sports complexes. In the Lauridsen skate park project, Romtec supplied a restroom structure for Lauridsen Skate Park in Des Moines, Iowa.
Lauridsen Skate Park opened on May 7th, 2021 and is the largest open park in the nation, according to the Lauridsen Skate Park’s website. The Park features 88,000 square feet consisting of “a promenade, flow bowl, amoeba pool, snake run, and a skateable art piece”. Snyder and Associates, Architect, brought Polk County Conservation to Romtec for the supply of a restroom building that could serve guests at the “Olympic caliber [skate]park”. For the skatepark, Romtec supplied a restroom structure with Men’s and Women’s restroom facilities that can serve two guests at a time and are American Disability Act (ADA) compliant. Each restroom also features a diaper deck for guests to tend to their small children.
The structure is a burnished gray block structure with a Charcoal Gray metal roofing with skylights to provide natural lighting inside the restrooms. A roof extension covers the face of the building and protects guests from the elements when entering or exiting the restrooms. The structure also has a mechanical room between the restrooms for easy maintenance and storage.
Lauridsen skatepark is an impressive addition to the City of Des Moines and encourages all ages to get out to the park, learn a new skill, and exercise. The addition of the Romtec restroom will make it easier for families and individuals to extend their stay at the park and makes the park more accessible for all users.
