In the West End Park Shelter project, Romtec worked with non-profit organization “13th St. District” and landscape architect Bolton & Menk, Inc to revitalize the West End Park in Marshalltown, Iowa.
West End Park is located next to Franklin Elementary School and residential neighborhoods in Marshalltown, which “suffered tremendous damage from a strong thunderstorm in 2018 [in which] West End Park was especially impacted, with the loss of a shelter and many of the park’s trees”, as noted by Bolten & Menk on their website. West End Park serves as a community entertainment hub with an “outdoor event space capable of holding 150+ people while accommodating food truck parking”, making the renovation of the park important to restoring an important facet of the Marshalltown community. (“West End Park Master Plan, City of Marshalltown, Iowa”, n.d.)
To help recreate the event space, Romtec supplied a custom pavilion that will allow guests to seek shelter from the elements and serve as an amphitheater/event stage at the park. The pavilion is a custom 25’ x 30’ pavilion with attractive and hardy glulam beams and rafters. Steel columns support the roof structure, which features hardy metal roofing in light gray with IKO Stormshield for further protection from rain and ice.
The pavilion was installed onsite by Blue Marble Environmental, who worked hard with Caliber Concrete LLC to bring the West End Park renovation plans to life. After construction, Romtec reached out to Geoff Hubbard with the City of Marshalltown Parks and Recreation Department, who was very pleased with the Romtec process and end product. With the renovations, West End Park is able to continue hosting events and serving the community.
