In the Martin Harris Farm project, Romtec worked with Jacobsen Construction and AECOM – Cleveland for the design and supply of a custom pavilion for the Martin Harris Farm and the Church of Latter-day Saints.
The Martin Harris Farm in Palmyra, New York is an important historical landmark for the Church of Latter-day Saints and their followers. Martin was one of the first scribes for the Book of Mormon, and mortgaged part of his farm to help publish the Book of Mormon. Today, the Church of Latter-day Saints owns a portion of what used to be Martin Harris Farm and, as part of a recent improvements project by the Church, Jacobsen Construction came to Romtec for the design and supply of a new pavilion that would complement the existing historical house on the land. (“Martin Harris Farm”, n.d.)
The Romtec supplied was a custom pavilion, 30’ x 30’ in size, with a single slope roof structure. The rafters and beams are hardy and attractive glulam beams, and the roofing is Oakridge composition roofing in a driftwood shade. Composition roofing was chosen to better match the historical house and continue the aesthetics of the area. The roof structure is supported by steel columns with custom block footings (done by Jacobsen Construction) that also match the existing house and create a unified theme in the landmark.
Jacobsen Construction worked onsite at the farm and constructed the custom Romtec pavilion for the Church of Latter-day Saints. The pavilion and improvements to the area will ensure that the historical site is more accessible for the Church and their followers and allows them to enjoy a piece of their religion’s history while being protected from the sun.
