Restroom Building in Flood Plain with FEMA Rated Protections

Willamalane Park and Recreation District required a new restroom building at Island Park in Springfield, Oregon. This 14-acre park is favored by locals for its open green spaces and close proximity to the downtown area. Island Park is located along the bank of the Willamette River and has access to finishing and a boat launch. Romtec needed to meet several design requirements for this public application, including features to prevent excessive damage caused by seasonal flooding from the nearby river. In order to meet this requirement, the building was designed with aluminum door jambs on either side of each entry door. These door jambs allow a flood barrier gate to be installed to prevent flood water from entering the building and damaging the interiors. The new restroom building is the most recent of several improvements of the park over the last few years.
