Hillsborough, North Carolina is located between Greensboro and Raleigh along the Eno River with a population around 10,000.
There is a scenic riverwalk that is a paved greenway that goes alongside the Eno River connecting to the Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area and Occoneechee Speedway trail.
Duke University is only about 11 miles away to the east in Durham, North Carolina which got a lot of stone for the university buildings from the Hillsborough Quarry. Cameron Indoor Stadium is one of the most iconic stadiums in the world on the Duke University campus, home to various sports.
Blackwood Farm Park was purchased by Orange County in 2001 for a future park on the 152-acre site. The park now has four miles of walking trails, an historic farmhouse, barn, open fields, picnic area, picnic shelter, fishing pond, and restroom building.
The park was purchased from the Blackwood family who owned the property since 1906 and ran it as a farm. The park opened in 2015 and has been a popular destination for its walking trails, open spaces, and wildlife viewing.
A recent renovation provided more parking, a new entrance to the park, a large picnic shelter, a park operation building, and an amphitheater.
The owner of the park, Orange County, worked with Susan Hatchell Landscape Architecture who brought Romtec this project opportunity. Romtec has previously worked with Susan Hatchell who is based out of Raleigh, North Carolina providing planning and design services.
Romtec provided the Aspen 1012 model restroom that features two waterless unisex restrooms, a metal roof, poly vent, cedar board and batten siding, and a kick resistant vent.
