In the DeMun Park project, Romtec supplied a restroom structure for the City of Clayton, Missouri. Romtec worked closely with the City of Clayton, Planning Design Studio (Landscape Architect), and Focal Pointe (Contractor) for the completion of this small restroom in an urban playground.
Located on the corner of Southwood Avenue and DeMun Avenue, DeMun Park features playgrounds, picnic tables, a raised garden, and a little library for guests to enjoy. The playgrounds are specially designed for children of different age groups, with one for children ages 2 to 5 and the other for ages 5 to 12, allowing little tikes to explore their playground while the energetic and rambunctious older kids can play on more suitable equipment for their age. Since the park is bordered on 3 sides by roadways and traffic, a decorative fence has been put around the exterior to encourage kids to stay inside the park and to give parents peace of mind during their day out (“Parks”, 2021).
For the Park, Romtec supplied a single, unisex restroom that is American Disability Act (ADA) compliant to provide guests of all abilities access to the restroom. The structure features a single restroom and mechanical space that allows access to plumbing for maintenance but can also serve as a storage area for cleaning supplies. Entrance to the restroom is on the face of the structure beneath a roof extension that provides shelter from the elements when entering or exiting, and the mechanical room access is through the rear of the structure, separating the public and nonpublic areas of the building.
The structure is composed of smooth face grey block with a Stucco veneer in a Sunset Yellow color and a Sand Pebble finish. The doors and door frames are powder-coated to provide durability and resistance to damage, and the powdercoat color is a warm brown that complements the Stucco siding. The metal roof in Terra Cotta completes the warm natural tones in the structure.
Inside the restroom, dual flush flushometers allow users to practice water efficiency by pulling up for liquid wastes (less water used) and pushing down for solid wastes (more water used). A tankless water heater provides warm water for guests to wash their hands, and a diaper deck allows parents to easily tend to their small children.
Romtec supplied this restroom structure to Focal Pointe, a local contractor, for installation at the Park. The restroom is an asset to guests, who will be able to see to their children’s needs as well as their own, while enjoying the park atmosphere in the middle of a historic district between Clayton and St. Louis Missouri.
