Romtec often supplies multiple structures for parks, and in the Tyrone S. Woods Memorial Park project we supplied a restroom facility and a picnic shelter to the City of Oregon City, Oregon.
Tyrone S. Woods Memorial Park in Oregon City is a 9-acre park that “will protect and restore natural resources while creating an engaging place for active and passive recreation for users of all ages and abilities”. At the Park, guests can enjoy “winding looped pathways, open lawn areas, [a] picnic shelter, benches, [a] nature playground, pickleball courts, [a] skate spot and a fenced off-leash dog park”. The Park is dedicated to Senior Chief Petty Officer Tyrone Snowden Woods, a native of Oregon City who graduated from the Oregon City Highschool and served his country as a Navy SEAL. After his work with the Navy, Tyrone continued to serve our country with the CIA, and gave his life defending American lives in Benghazi, Libya. (“Tyrone S Woods Memorial Park”, n.d.)
As a park for users of all ages and abilities, it was important to have a restroom structure that could be easily accessible for everyone. The Romtec supplied restroom structure contains two unisex, single user restrooms that are American Disability Act (ADA) compliant, and an attached mechanical room on the rear of the structure. The restrooms can be accessed from the face of the structure, and inside guests can use the high-use stainless steel fixtures with push button flushometers and motion sensor faucets to make the restroom easier to use for guests of varying abilities. In addition to push button flushometers, and the motion sensor sinks, this restroom also utilizes push button exit switches to greater increase accessibility.
The structure is composed of smooth face block, with one row of block exposed at the bottom of the structure and board and batten siding over the remaining exterior. The doors and door frames are powder coated black for a sleek finish and extra protection from damage, and door louvers allow fresh air to enter the restrooms. The Evergreen metal roofing provides a hardy roof structure that is extra protected with IKO storm shield, and the installed skylights provide natural lighting inside the restrooms.
The picnic shelter supplied with the restroom is a custom 40’x20’ pavilion with beautiful glulam columns, beams, and trusses and is topped with a matching Evergreen metal roofing to create a unified appearance to the structures in the park.
Tapani, the general contractor, installed both the Romtec restroom and pavilion onsite at the park. Their hard work has made the memorial park even more accessible and friendly for guests of all abilities and will be able to serve guests from the nearby neighborhoods, Oregon City High School, and Clackamas Community College.
