Las Cruces is a city in southern New Mexico located along Interstate 10 and Interstate 25 on the edge of the Chihuahuan Desert.
Las Cruces is about 45 miles north of El Paso, Texas which is near the Mexico and United States border. Albuquerque is about 3 hours north of Las Cruces on Interstate 25. The Rio Grande River runs through Las Cruces which is where the Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park sits adjacent to the river.
Las Cruces is also home to the Museum of Nature and Science, Ranch Heritage Museum, and the Railroad Museum which is in an old depot.
Fort Selden in southern New Mexico was created in 1865 to help bring peace to the area with the aid of the U.S. Army in modern-day Radium Springs. Later in 1891, Fort Selden was abandoned as hostilities calmed down and the need for the military in the region changed. Adobe ruins remain at the Fort Selden Historic Site which provides visitors with a glimpse of the past.
Just up Interstate 25 from Fort Selden, sits this unique public restroom at an Interstate 25 New Mexico rest area.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation continuously provides comfortable and clean rest stops along the New Mexico interstate and highway systems.
This regional public restroom was provided as part of a “turnkey” building replacement project. The facility offers travelers all the amenities needed at a rest stop, as well as a visual experience of the region.
With men’s and women’s multi-user facilities and a large mechanical/storage room, this restroom building provides the necessary space for travelers and maintenance personnel alike.
The multi-user Romtec restroom building features CMU concrete walls, with an elastomeric coating over the walls, a wood roof extension, kick-resistant metal vents, along with a place for a heating and cooling unit.
