For this pool restroom shower and administration and storage buildings project, we provided four buildings for a new pool complex at NH Scott Recreation Center in Decatur, Georgia. Romtec designed, supplied, and constructed the pool restroom and shower building with administration and storage, with four buildings built with our “turnkey” services to help with the operations of the new pool at the NH Scott Recreation Center.
Decatur, Georgia is a city just 6 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta and is the county seat of Dekalb County.
Known as a small town, Decatur is home to some popular restaurants and the NH Scott Recreation Center.
The NH Scott Recreation Center has a full size gym, multi purpose rooms, kitchen, meeting room, nature trail, multi purpose fields, playground, tennis and basketball courts.
Pool Renovation Multi Building Project
For the NH Scott Recreation Center Pool renovation, an old pool, slab, and existing structures needed to be demolished to make way for a new pool and various buildings to support aquatic operations. In other words this was a demolition and replace type project.
The NH Scott Pool renovation will provide a modern and functional aquatic space for Decatur, Georgia and Dekalb County residents.
Sourcewell Pool Buildings
Dekalb County Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Affairs had a contractor backout on this project and to keep it moving forward, they purchased the “Turnkey” Romtec buildings through Sourcewell for the NH Scott Project. They also wanted to capitalize on the multiple buildings discount through Sourcewell.
Sourcewell is a purchasing cooperative that benefits governments by providing a streamlined competitive purchasing process.
Romtec was awarded the “turnkey” project with four buildings that were designed, supplied, and built by our team.
Multi-Buildings Design
The four buildings for the NH Scott Park pool renovation project include an administration building with a private office, and concession window. There is a storage building which includes an ADA unisex restroom, a mechanical space, and a bag check room, with a concession window for the new pool for check-in.
A pump building with a featured pump room, bulk chlorine tank, sump pits, pool filters, along with a variety of pumps and components for the pool operations.
A large pool restroom shower building was the biggest building in this project with multi user ADA restrooms and showers. There is a large mechanical room for AO Smith electric water heaters. There are benches in the hallway outside of the showers which have their own doors and benches inside.
The restroom and shower building features Milgard windows, CMU smooth face concrete block wall siding, kick resistant wall vents, a Fabral single slope thin seam metal roof with vented peak, Steelcraft doors, Proflo toilets, urinals, and lavatories, and Lithonia lighting.
The Key Players On The Project
This is our first time working with Dekalb County, but we are also working with them on projects at Lithonia Park, Midway Park, and Exchange Park.
Pond & Company was the site engineer, who worked alongside Romtec and Dekalb County on this project. Pond & Company is a full-service consulting firm that has provided integrated engineering, architecture, planning, and construction management based in Peachtree Corners, Georgia.
Pool Operations Building Features
The storage and restroom building has the same features as the restroom and shower building, with a Fabral single slope thin seam metal roof, exhaust fan, CMU smooth face and split face concrete block wall, and Wheatbelt concession window for the bag check room.
The administration building features a Fabral single slope thin seam metal roof, CMU split face and smooth face concrete block wall, Milgard windows, two Wheatbelt concession windows, and Steelcraft doors.
The pump building has the same exterior features as the other buildings, as they all match on the same aesthetic. The pump building has sump pits, three chlorine resistant automatic louver intake vents and a chlorine resistant automatic louver exhaust fan to help with the various pump and chemical operations within this building.
Benefits of Pool Operations Buildings
When pools undergo renovation or a new pool replaces an existing one, or a completely new park is opening a new pool, a series of buildings can help with the operations of the pool complex. Various buildings can provide for the needs of a pool, its operations, and the needs associated with running a pool.
Buildings for consideration include:
- Administration building – office space, private offices, operations window or concession window close to the pool or fence area can help check guests in to the pool, taking admission, and check kids into a program or camp.
- Storage buildings are great for storing equipment associated with pool programs or operations. A feature of this project included a bag room within the storage buildings for guests to check in bags during their time at the pool. Providing a concession window at this bag room allows quick and easy access to the bag room for checking in and out of bags. A restroom can also be in this building for staff.
- A pump building that houses all the various pumps and chemicals associated with the pool operations. Included are special vents or exhaust vans to help ventilate the building and the various chemicals like chlorine.
- A multi-user restroom and shower building provides the capacity for pools and guests to change, shower, and use the restroom, while having a private shower stall to do so. Various benches in the shower area also provide a space for people to change and put their belongings while showering or changing.
- ADA showers and restrooms. Providing enough space for ADA compliance starts with the design of these restroom and shower buildings. A community pool is a welcoming space for people of all abilities and should be designed to accommodate everyone.
At Romtec we design, manufacture, and construct these pool building operations buildings all over the country. Our team of designers can work with you to provide for the needs of your community and staff.
