As the largest city-owned park in Orange County, Huntington Central Park encompasses over 350 acres of land (“Huntington Central Park”, 2017). A long-time customer of Romtec’s, the City of Huntington Beach hired Romtec for a multi-phase project for the supply of a multi-user restroom building.
Huntington Central Park is a large park, with wide open fields and paved walking paths. The Park is an oasis in the city with an adventure playground, an amphitheater, a disc golf course, lakes, restaurants, a senior center, a nature center, and “the largest children’s library west of the Mississippi” (“Huntington Central Park”, 2017). The Park is surrounded by residential neighborhoods and is an important and impactful community asset.
Phase two of the Huntington Community Park project included a Romtec restroom installed in the West portion of the park, proximal to Kathy May’s Lakeview Café, Lake Huntington, and the scenic lakeview walking trail.
The Romtec restroom serves up to 6 guests simultaneously with a total of 4 American Disability Act (ADA) compliant restrooms, and two non-ADA restrooms. The restrooms feature fixtures suitable for high traffic areas and are resistant to damage and vandalism. There are 3 single-user restrooms on each side with a mechanical room in between.
The building is composed of a smooth face gray block, with a stone veneer wainscot and a stucco coating to add texture and an aesthetic to the structure. The roof of the restroom is an “Evergreen” colored metal roofing that matches the powder coated doors, door frames, kick proof wall vents, and gable window frames. The natural textures and colors on this structure help it blend in with the surrounding area and complement rather than distract from the natural and peaceful environment.
Green Giant Landscape, Inc. constructed the restroom building on site for the City of Huntington Beach. Romtec had the great opportunity to work with the City of Huntington Beach again on this Huntington Central Park project, after completing buildings at Worthy Park, the Shipley Nature Center, and other structures in Central Park.
