Leadville, Colorado is a statutory city in a rural part of the state about 100 miles southwest of Denver.
Located along U.S. Route 24, Leadville is the county seat of Lake County, the most populous community, and the only incorporated city in the county. They had a population of 2,633 at the 2020 census.
Leadville sits at an elevation of 10,158 feet with many mountains in the surrounding area. It is the highest incorporated city in the U.S and a former silver mining town that sits by the headwaters of the Arkansas River.
The city is surrounded by two of the state’s tallest peaks, Mount Massive and Mount Elbert.
Turquoise Lake is a popular lake in the community used for recreational purposes.
Among the many mountains in the area are a variety of hiking trails and attractions including Timberline Lake Trailhead, Prospect Mountain, Leadville National Fish Hatchery, Leadville Motocross Park, Molly Brown Campground, Monarch Mine, Galena Mountain, Mt Sherman, Horseshoe Mountain, Mount Massive Wilderness Area, Mt Elbert Trailhead, Alpine Adventures Dogsledding, and Kite Lake Trailhead.
The Leadville Historic District in downtown was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1961 with historic structures from the mining era. There are 67 mines east of the city that the historic district encompasses.
During the late 19th century, Leadville was the second most populous city in Colorado behind Denver, mainly from the mining boom. Since then, the town has shifted toward tourism, highlighting its history and outdoor recreational opportunities.
The National Mining Museum and Hall of Fame opened in 1987 in Leadville.
Leadville Lake County Economic Development Corporation contacted Romtec for the design of a parklet restroom building for their visitor center.
The parklet restroom building is in the historic downtown area of Leadville, so they wanted an architecturally pleasing design that fits with the historical buildings surrounding it. The Leadville Main Street Park parklet restroom building project is a great addition to the visitor center that was in need of upgraded amenities.
The parklet restroom building will provide visitors a place to rest, get information, and plan their stay in Leadville. It doubles as a service point for locals and businesses that need reliable restroom facilities for public use.
Romtec designed and supplied a double parklet restroom building that has two ADA unisex restrooms and a mechanical room.
The building features composition roofing over underlayment with an ice & water shield at the perimeter over roof trusses, lap siding over continuous insulation over CMU split face concrete block wall, wood gable truss, exhaust roof hood, vent boots, and wall mounted lights.
