Pella, Iowa is about 40 miles southeast of Des Moines, which is the capital of the state. Pella is home to Central College and was settled by Dutch immigrants in 1847.
The city of about 10,000 was the childhood home of Wyatt Earp whose family had a farm in Pella.
Pella, Iowa has the Vermeer Mill, which is a functioning 1850’s style windmill which stands 134 feet high. The Vermeer Mill used only wind power to grind wheat into flour.
The North Overlook Recreation Area is known for its densely wooded campsites and located north of the Red Rock Dam on Lake Red Rock which is Iowa’s largest lake.
The campground features a playground, family-style restroom shower facility, a beach, a picnic shelter, and access to the Volksweg Trail. Visitors enjoy boating, fishing, hiking, biking, picnicking, and wildlife viewing.
There are 49 reservable campsites, six of which are specifically for tent camping only. Some of the sites are designed to accommodate visitors with disabilities.
The United States Army Corps of Engineers Lake Red Rock Project owns and operates the North Overlook Recreation Area Campground. The USACE Lake Red Rock Project were referred to Romtec by their neighboring “Saylorville Lake” office which had purchased a Romtec “Turnkey” project previously.
Romtec provided a 2088 Sierra IV six pack restroom and shower building which features six restrooms and six showers, a mechanical room, a metal roof, CMU concrete block wall siding, and windows.
