For Zela Davis Park, in Hawthorne, CA, Romtec provided a park renovation’s new restroom building to fit the upgrades to the park which included a new playground, basketball court, and walking path. The park renovation’s new restroom building features metal corrugated siding and a single slope metal roof to create a modern restroom building design that is appealing and fits seamlessly in the surrounding area.
We worked with the City of Hawthorne to provide this unique restroom building to go along with their park renovation at Zela Davis Park that was funded by the Clean California Local Grant Program. Salt Landscape Architects and Doja, Inc. were contractors who helped bring this project to life for the City of Hawthorne.
Hawthorne is a city in California within Los Angeles County and within the Los Angeles metropolitan area known as the South Bay.
Hawthorne is about 4 miles from the California coastline on the Pacific Ocean.
Park Restroom Building at Zela Davis Park
Zela Davis Park, a half-acre park, went through some renovations and held a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome families back to the renewed space. The densely populated area around Zela Davis Park is home to nearly 20,000 residents within a half mile radius. The project received more than $3 million from the Clean California Local Grant Program.
SALT Landscape Architects was the project driver who brought this project to Romtec. They are a Los Angeles-based design studio that creates enduring, engaging, and innovative landscapes at a range of scales.
Renovations included a brand-new playground, walking path, fencing, landscaping and 40 new shade trees, a basketball court, restrooms that are ADA accessible, new swings with some swings for children who have physical mobility needs, new bioswale, and gym equipment.
The bioswale is a landscaping feature that will capture, treat, and infiltrate stormwater runoff.
Park Renovations Restroom Building
Before the additions, there was no restroom and very few amenities at Zela Davis Park. The new ADA compliant playground, ADA restrooms, and improved picnic area with shade structures make the park a major attraction for families in the area, with Zela Davis Elementary School nearby.
Romtec provided a Model 2022 two-unit restroom building that has two unisex ADA restrooms, a urinal and toilet in both restrooms, along with ThinAir hand dryers and sinks. The restroom building also had a mechanical storage room and Elkay drinking fountains.
The single slope metal roof with roof overhang has Fabral roofing, the restroom includes gable vents, an Intermatic red security light, galvanized corrugated metal siding over CMU concrete block wall, American Laminators glulam rafters, tongue and groove decking, a Romtec custom steel gate with hold open to protect the doors from vandalism, Steelcraft doors, Bradley partitions, Hager door closers, Schlage locks, Metcraft toilets and sinks, Lithonia LED lighting, Eaton load center and circuit breaker.
Doja, Inc. was the general contractor who installed the restroom building on behalf of the City of Hawthorne at Zela Davis Park. Doja is among the leading companies in mass excavation and general engineering work serving the greater Los Angeles area for more than two decades based in Ontario, California.
Upgraded Park Restroom
The City of Hawthorne is the owner of Zela Davis Park who was pleased with the Romtec restroom building and product offering. We worked with the City of Hawthorne before on the Bicentennial Park project.
This restroom building that features metal corrugated siding and a metal roof, is an appealing building that fits the surrounding playground area that sits. Romtec designed the building to fit the needs of the park and the city by creating an attractive building suitable to the eye in a modern setting.
We worked to meet the city’s timeline for completion, as we designed and supplied the restroom building which was constructed by Doja. We were able to meet the timeline and deliver an aesthetically pleasing restroom for their renovated park project.
