For the Stephen M. Bush Memorial Shooting Range project, Romtec supplied a waterless restroom and a pavilion to the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish (NMDGF). Romtec often supplies restrooms to government entities like the NMDGF, the U.S Forest Service, and the Department of Transportation, and has contracts at both the state and national level for purchasing.
Before the NMDGF could purchase the restroom for the shooting range, they first needed the land to build on. Stephen M. Bush was an avid hunter, and acquired a large amount of land to indulge in this beloved past time. After his passing, he left behind his wife Susie and all of his possessions. To honor his memory, Susie donated half of their property to build the shooting range, and the project truly began.
The Romtec structure provided for this project was a Romtec Aspen Waterless Restroom with two unisex restrooms. The walls are constructed of split-face block in “Tan”, with black doors and doorframes standing out from the neutral toned block. The vents and gable windows match the door frames with a black finish.
On top of the structure, architectural composition (shingle) roofing gives a classic look to the building. Half of the roofing covers the restroom building, and the other half creates a covered area in front of the doorways. Providing a sheltered area like this is one, is an added feature that guests are sure to appreciate. The breezeway provides a welcoming look to the structure while providing guests protection from the weather as they enter and exit the restrooms.
Beneath each restroom is a 750-gallon vault to collect waste. Romtec vaults are a patented design and composed of Reinforced LLDPE Polyethylene. The 750-gallon vaults can offer approximately 11,000 uses each, but for the customers in high traffic areas, Romtec also offers a 1000 gallon vault option.
Inside each restroom is a polyethylene toilet riser that connects to the vault below. The Romtec toilet riser is the main component of Romtec’s humble beginnings, and continues to be sold nationwide today. Our toilet riser “cleans easily, will not support bacterial growth, is impervious to chemicals, and resists vandalism.” Risers can also be purchased with a Safety Riser Bar that can prevent smaller guests or large objects from falling into the vault below.
The waterless restroom is part of Romtec’s expertise with hundreds of buildings placed all around the nation. They are popular in remote areas to provide facilities without running water, and can be a saving grace for keeping these areas safe and clean. The NMDGF was able to purchase this structure through a New Mexico State Contract, making the procurement of the restroom building not only quick and easy but at a competitive cost.
Onsite construction for this project was handled by Mick Rich Contractors. Thanks to their hard work, the New Mexico Department Of Game and Fish and the Stephen M. Bush Memorial Shooting Range now have a hardy structure that will serve guests of the range for years to come.
