Oakland, California is a major city located on the San Francisco Bay, across from San Francisco. As the county seat of Alameda County, it has a population of 440,646, making it the eighth most populous city in California.
Interstate 80, better known as the Bay Bridge, connects the two major cities in the Bay Area.
The Port of Oakland is a major port and is regarded as a significant trade center, as its one of the busiest ports in the U.S.

The Woodminster Amphitheater is a historic outdoor amphitheater in Joaquin Miller Park, that hosts a long-running summer musical series known as the Woodminster Summer Musicals.
Joaquin Miller Park is a 500-acre park that features rustic woodland trails that lead through redwood groves and oak woodlands and across lush creek sides and wet meadows. The park hosts weddings, picnics, large gatherings, or special events.
The Woodminster Amphitheater is owned by the City of Oakland and has put on concerts and other performances since the 1950’s.
The city’s public works department wanted to add a restroom at the amphitheater and was connected to Romtec through Muller & Caulfield Architects who was the project driver. Romtec previously worked with the city on the Bella Vista project.
Muller & Caulfield Architects is an architect based in Oregon.
The Installing Contractor was Imaan Construction Inc. Imaan Construction provides general contracting and construction management in California.
The City of Oakland purchased the Romtec supplied restroom building with the CMAS Contract which is a statewide contract that companies obtain to sell to California state and local government agencies at prices which have been assessed to be fair, reasonable, and competitive.
The 2022 – Sierra II Compact Double restroom with a storage/mechanical room for the theater features two unisex ADA-approved restrooms, a composition roof, a roll-up door with a coil box that secures the facilities when not in use, wood framed wire mesh gable vent, and stucco over 8″ x 16″ CMU smooth face concrete block wall with fully reinforced running bond pattern.
The overall structure seamlessly blends into the surrounding area and with the Woodminster Theater since the aesthetic was chosen to fit in with the surroundings. Romtec specializes in designing buildings to match a certain theme, match other buildings, or fit into a certain landscape or backdrop.
It was a pleasure to work with the city, Muller & Caulfield Architects on the design of this facility that serves the historic Woodminster Theater and its summer musicals concert series in California.
