Romtec helps to supply facilities for new parks across the nation and was able to supply a new restroom structure for Woodland Hills Park in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Woodland Hills Park is a relatively new park nestled beside Woodland Hills Elementary School, residential neighborhoods, and close to Sugar Creek. The Park features two areas, one with smaller structures for younger children, and a second area with a larger and more complex area for older kids to climb and explore. Woodland Hills Park also features a picnic shelter with a grill, a large open field for play, and biking/walking trails on 8 acres (“Woodland Hills – Parks & Trails”, n.d.).
The City of West Des Moines came to Romtec for the supply of a restroom structure for Woodland Hills Park, after having worked with us on the previous Whisper Point Park, Holiday Park, and Wild Rose Park projects. For Woodland Hills Park, Romtec supplied a dual-user restroom with an attached mechanical room on the rear of the structure. Each unisex restroom is American Disability Act (ADA) compliant with enough room to maneuver a wheelchair and accessible features such as motion flushometers and push button faucets.
The structure is composed of split face concrete masonry units (CMU) in a pewter finish, with kick proof vents and gable windows set in the block to provide natural ventilation and lighting inside the restrooms. The roofing on the structure is a metal roofing in a Tahoe Blue shade and will be resistant to damage from weather concerns.
Joiner Construction installed the structure onsite at the park and their hard work has provided a valuable piece of public infrastructure for the families in the area. Woodland Hills Park is sure to be a favorite of the kids in West Des Moines, with structures that will continue to challenge them as they grow.
