Pavilion for Cross Park in Tacoma, WA

Romtec was pleased to partner with Pierce County and HBB Landscape Architecture on this pavilion at Cross Park in Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma, Washington sits along the Puget Sound, which is about 30 miles southwest of Seattle.

The city is known for various places like the Museum of Glass, Lemay – America’s Car Museum, Point Defiance Park, Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, Wild Waves Theme and Water Park, the Tacoma Art Museum, and the Washington State History Museum.

Tacoma had a population of 219,346 at the 2020 census and is the county seat of Pierce County. It is the third most populous city in Washington. Tacoma is a port city and the business center for the South Sound region, which has a population of about 1,000,000.

Interstate 5, State Route 7, and Route 16 go through Tacoma. Route 16 crosses the Puget Sound over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

Mount Rainier National Park is about 60 miles southeast of Tacoma and can be seen from the city.

Other attractions in Tacoma include the W.W. Seymour Botanical Conservatory, Swan Creek Park, Allenmore Golf Course, Cheney Stadium, Tacoma Nature Center, Fircrest Golf Club, Wapato Park, Charlotte’s Blueberry Park, and Cross Park.

Cross Park spans 64 acres with a variety of natural areas in Fredrickson.

Cross Park Pavillion

The park’s initial 4-acre development has been designed to cater to the community’s needs, featuring expansive green spaces, an accessible playground, and the transformation of historic barns into a vibrant community center.

The site also provides versatile indoor and outdoor spaces for meetings and events, scenic walking trails, a park shelter, and convenient on-site parking, making it a perfect locale for family outings and community gatherings in the Tacoma area.

The Frederickson Community Center is at the center of the park next to the playground, natural areas, parking lot, pavilion, and walking trails.

In the mid 1930’s the Mayflower Dairy’s hay and milking farm became a staple in the community where Cross Park sits today. In 1973, Stan and Joan Cross purchased sixty-two and a half acres from the Sutter family. They raised beef cattle and other farm animals.

The Romtec pavilion sits next to the playground with picnic tables for recreation and relaxation. The pavilion features steel columns, a metal roof, glulam rafters, glulam purlins, a single slope roof, a steel knee brace, glulam beams, and tongue and groove ceiling, that all fit together with the adjacent playground and forest.

Pierce County then reached out to directly purchase the design & supply of the Romtec pavilion for Cross Park in Tacoma, Washington.

HBB has already brought a second opportunity to Romtec including a small restroom for a Pierce County project. HBB is a first-time project driver and is a great partner as landscape architects in the Seattle area.

Romtec was pleased to partner with Pierce County and HBB Landscape Architecture on this pavilion at Cross Park in Tacoma, Washington. This new pavilion provides a shaded space for picnics right next to the playground and close to picnic tables in the area.

Romtec designed the pavilion to fit the needs of Cross Park while using materials that blend well with the nearby community center, playground, and surrounding natural areas. That Memorial Park Project is one of our favorites too – it truly made a positive impact for our visitors, and we will continue to keep Romtec in mind as opportunities to collaborate come up!

I have to mention that aside from the products Romtec supplies and the workmanship of the subcontractors (Ken and crew), I’m also very impressed with your responsiveness to issues – you’re a far cry from the usual taillight warranty.

You get what you pay for. Romtec provided the most perfect, seamless, flawless project I could have imagined. I would use Romtec 100 times over and will not consider any other options moving forward. You were able to beat my original budget and expectations. Everyone involved was great from sales to construction management, to the construction team themselves.

If I were to do this again, I would no doubt hire Romtec and its subcontractors to do the installation. Hindsight is always 20/20 and I learned a valuable lesson that I will hire Romtec’s certified installers to do the construction.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Dan Keagy (Romtec’s assistant construction manager). He in my opinion went above and beyond to solve our problems and problems that were not necessarily his or Romtec’s to solve. He is a great guy and great resource for Romtec. Overall, the biggest thing to me was the service after the sale. Romtec didn’t just make the sale and move on, but they supported us through a very long and arduous construction process.

Romtec was phenomenal when it came to service after the sale. They were available anytime there were questions. In addition, there were some issues with missing materials. Even though it was not Romtec’s fault for the missing materials, the were more than willing to send us the missing materials to get the project done. Romtec even sent out a representative to tour the site to give firsthand recommendations on how to proceed.
