The Project

Lake County was looking for a restroom structure for a park in Kelseyville that offered sports fields, a picnic shelter, and a children’s playground. The county was looking for a small facility that would meet the needs of all of the park users. Most important was functionality, not only for those using the park, but also for those tasked with the cleaning and maintenance of the facilities. The county asked Romtec to meet all these requirements without sacrificing the aesthetics desired in the overall look and feel of the entire park and its structures. The county wanted a custom design exterior that spoke to the care taken to provide a clean and useable restroom. Patrons would know from the outside that the inside is just as clean and inviting. The county wanted it to tie-in with other improvements being made to their park.

The Solution

Romtec proposed their Sierra II model with a few custom ‘twists’. The single user rooms would offer the restroom facilities needed for those using the picnic shelter and playground, and offer the privacy needed to change clothes for those utilizing the sports fields. The twist on the standard design was two custom roof extensions off both ends of the building. The design would use hand-hewn log trusses built right in Romtec’s custom woodshop in Oregon. The county was impressed with the personal hand-craftsmanship available from a “commercial” restroom provider. The log trusses tie-in beautifully with custom wood fencing that lines all of the park’s walkways. The roof extensions offer cover from the elements for park patrons as well as park staff, showing both are valued by the county. The finished project is inviting, attractive, serviceable, clean, and blends in to the environment of the park. It was the perfect solution for this park and the county and park patrons could not be happier.
