Rocky River, Ohio – Lakefront Beach Restroom

The City of Rocky River, Ohio improved the lakefront beach restroom at Bradstreet’s Landing Park on Lake Erie, including upgrades to the pier, walkways, and visitor areas. As part of those improvements, Romtec helped deliver a new lakefront beach restroom near the parking lot and the paths that lead to the beach and pier. The goal was simple: to create a durable, good-looking building that fits the park’s scenic setting and serves visitors year-round.

Bradstreet’s Landing Park Location: Rocky River, Ohio

Rocky River is a lakeside community about 10 miles west of Cleveland, in western Cuyahoga County. It sits along Lake Erie and is easy to reach from major roads like Interstate 90 and U.S. Routes 6 and 20. With more than 21,000 residents, the city balances a neighborhood feel with access to a large metro area, which helps explain why Bradstreet’s Landing Park stays busy through the warmer months.

Sand Beach and Pier

Bradstreet’s Landing Park is a small but high-impact lakefront destination. The park includes a sand beach and a long pier that extends into Lake Erie, creating a great spot for fishing, bird watching, and sunset viewing. Because so many visitors enter from the parking lot and head straight toward the pier and shoreline, placing the restroom close to those routes was an important part of the overall site experience.

Park Improvements That Increased Visitor Use

The City of Rocky River completed major improvements across the park. The pier was reconstructed and the surrounding area received new hardscape and shoreline work, along with updates to utilities and lighting. Work also included concrete flatwork, paving, landscaping, and other upgrades designed to make the park safer, easier to navigate, and more enjoyable for families and visitors.

With the new pier and site updates drawing consistent traffic, the existing lakefront beach restroom no longer matched the standard of the renovated park. The city wanted a replacement that would hold up overtime, support year-round use, and look like it belonged in a scenic Lake Erie setting, not like an afterthought.

Lakeside Restroom Building Design and Materials

Romtec worked directly with the City of Rocky River during early planning to develop a design and budget that fit the park’s needs. The finished lakefront beach restroom building is a double restroom with two single-user rooms plus a separate mechanical room. The layout supports busy days at the beach while keeping the building simple to maintain.

Exterior Design

The exterior was selected to blend with the park environment. It includes Owens-Corning architectural composition roofing, James Hardie fiber cement board-and-batten siding over concrete block walls, and Willamette Graystone stone veneer along the lower portion of the structure. A timber truss roof extension and wood columns add warmth and character, and the overall look fits naturally with the trees, shoreline, and pier area.

Interior Design

Inside, the building was equipped with durable, well-known components chosen for performance and long service life, including quality Kohler toilets, lavatories, an electric water heater, and reliable lighting. Drinking fountains were installed near the parking lot and trail entrance to support visitors heading to and from the beach and pier.

Project Challenge: Build a Restroom That Matches a Signature Lake Erie Park

Bradstreet’s Landing Park is not just a neighborhood green space, it’s a destination. That meant the restroom needed to do more than meet basic requirements. It had to be attractive, easy for visitors to find, and built to handle weather along Lake Erie. The city also needed the restroom to fit into the larger construction schedule for the park renovations.

Romtec’s Solution: A Year-Round, Site-Built Restroom Delivered on the City’s Timeline

Romtec supported the project from early design through delivery by coordinating closely with the City of Rocky River. The team worked through the preliminary design and budget so the city could move forward with confidence. Because the building is designed for the site and built for long-term performance, it offers a strong alternative to one-size-fits-all restroom options.

The lakeside restroom was part of a larger, phased effort. The parking lot was completed first, and the restrooms and landscaping followed in the second phase. To streamline purchasing, the city used a cooperative purchasing contract by the name of Sourcewell to buy the design-and-supply portion, and then the installation work was put out for competitive bidding.

Romtec delivered the building supply package in a timely manner, helping the project move quickly from planning to construction. Installation was completed by Northeast Ohio Trenching Service, an experienced commercial excavation and site development contractor. Staying aligned with the city’s schedule helped ensure the restroom was ready to serve visitors as the renovated park reopened.

Project Partners and Collaboration

This project brought together several teams. The City of Rocky River served as the owner and worked closely with Romtec during design and budgeting. Mackay Engineering & Surveying supported the site design and bid process. Northeast Ohio Trenching Service installed the restroom as part of the broader set of park improvements. Clear communication between partners helped the project stay on track and achieve a finished result that fits the setting.

Conclusion: A Better Visitor Experience at Bradstreet’s Landing Park

With a rebuilt pier, improved shoreline areas, and upgraded parking and paths, Bradstreet’s Landing Park offers a more welcoming lakefront experience. The new restroom supports that experience by providing a clean, durable, easy-to-find facility close to the main visitor routes. Just as important, the building’s materials and architectural details help it feel like a natural part of the park.

I have to mention that aside from the products Romtec supplies and the workmanship of the subcontractors (Ken and crew), I’m also very impressed with your responsiveness to issues – you’re a far cry from the usual taillight warranty.

If I were to do this again, I would no doubt hire Romtec and its subcontractors to do the installation. Hindsight is always 20/20 and I learned a valuable lesson that I will hire Romtec’s certified installers to do the construction.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Dan Keagy (Romtec’s assistant construction manager). He in my opinion went above and beyond to solve our problems and problems that were not necessarily his or Romtec’s to solve. He is a great guy and great resource for Romtec. Overall, the biggest thing to me was the service after the sale. Romtec didn’t just make the sale and move on, but they supported us through a very long and arduous construction process.

Romtec was phenomenal when it came to service after the sale. They were available anytime there were questions. In addition, there were some issues with missing materials. Even though it was not Romtec’s fault for the missing materials, the were more than willing to send us the missing materials to get the project done. Romtec even sent out a representative to tour the site to give firsthand recommendations on how to proceed.
