In addition to designing and supplying structures, Romtec can also provide installation services in our “turnkey” or “design-build” packages. With a turnkey building package, Romtec sends one of our own construction crews to the site for demolition, site preparation, constructing the building, and more. Romtec recently completed a turnkey building package with the City of Cathedral City in California at the Cathedral City Community Amphitheater, formerly known as the Commons Heritage Park.
The Cathedral City Community Amphitheater is part of a larger project by Cathedral City to revitalize the downtown area which includes the completion of the new civic center and town square. The Amphitheater is the newest addition to this revitalization project, and was funded by a “$2.8 million California State Parks Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant to create a new and interactive outdoor amphitheater space for cultural, entertainment and recreation events and activities” (“Cathedral City Community Amphitheater |”, n.d.). As a part of the Amphitheater and Park project, Cathedral City came to Romtec for the design, supply, and installation of a multi-purpose building after the building came in over budget with a competitor.

The Romtec supplied building is a single slope, multi-purpose structure with two unisex, American Disability Act (ADA) compliant restrooms, a concession stand, and a mechanical room. The building is composed of split face gray block with a smooth block double striation on the lower half of the structure. Board and Batten siding on the gable ends also provides a break in the texture of the block, and by using different materials and block textures, the building design is more pleasing and in line with the atmosphere of the area.
The restrooms can be accessed on the side of the structure, and feature white china toilets and sinks. The mechanical room can be accessed from the rear of the structure and gives maintenance personnel access to the plumbing for the restrooms, the concession stand, and the drinking fountains on the face of the building. A water heater is also stored in the mechanical room, and gives the structure and concession stand access to hot water for hand washing and cleaning.
A roll up window on the face of the structure allows guests to easily identify and access the concession portion of the structure, and personnel can access the stand from the rear of the building. Placing the concession stand and mechanical room doors on the rear of the building physically separates the public and reduces confusion for guests at the park.
As with all food service and prep, cleanliness is essential to the health and well-being of the public. To achieve this, there is a three basin sink and a separate hand washing sink for personnel to cleanly and properly handle concessions.
The City of Cathedral City has put an enormous amount of effort into revitalizing the downtown area, and Romtec is happy to have been able to supply and construct the Romtec multi-purpose building as a part of their project. By utilizing Romtec’s construction crew, the City ensured the greatest success of their building by hiring the experts. Now, the City of Cathedral City is one step further in their goal to encourage residents to go outdoors and enjoy all the area has to offer.
