Castle Shannon, Pennsylvania Restroom Concession and Covered Pavilion Building

For this restroom concession and covered pavilion building, we worked with the Castle Shannon Borough in Pennsylvania to design and supply this centerpiece building at one of their major parks. The restroom concession and covered pavilion building is an important gathering place for the Castle Shannon community providing space for larger community events, sports, concessions, and concerts.

We worked with Castle Shannon along with LSSE, the civil engineer, and Stefanik’s Next Generation Contracting Co. to deliver this restroom, concession, and pavilion building for Hamilton Park.

Castle Shannon is a borough in Allegheny County and is 6 miles south of Pittsburgh along State Route 51.

The population of Castle Shannon, which is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, was 8,249 at the 2020 census.

Hamilton Park

Hamilton Park in Castle Shannon features a splash pad, sport fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, two pavilions, restrooms, a playground, parking lot, and two complete kitchens and barbecue grills.

As part of the upgrades, the Castle Shannon Borough sees Hamilton Park as its recreation center piece that will be home to teams’ sports, pavilion rentals, weekly community gatherings, movie nights, a walking path, and environmental education opportunities.

Romtec was contacted by LSSE for the design & supply of a new building package for the Hamilton Park Renovation project. We worked directly with the owner and LSSE engineering to come up with a design and select all the options for the building. We worked with LSSE previously on the Scott Township Park splash pad project in Scott Township, Pennsylvania.

LSSE is a civil engineering and surveying company with experienced facilities engineers, civil surveying, residential engineering and utility engineering based in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania in the Pittsburgh area.

They demolished an existing building and installed an all-new Romtec restroom and concession building at the park for the project. They put the installation out to bid for the building. The design and supply of this building was directly purchased through the PA Costars contract which allows governments in Pennsylvania to purchase products in a competitive bidding process through vetted contractors.

This is a very complex building that featured multiuser restrooms, a single user unisex restroom, a mechanical room, a concession room with three concession windows, a large storage room, with a large covered open area.

The building featured a Fabral thin seam metal roof, fiber cement lap siding over CMU concrete block wall, Masonry Veneer stone veneer, Bradley restroom partitions, Steelcraft doors, photocell under roof overhang, three concession windows, Overhead Door garage door, steel columns, American Laminators glulam beams, Hager door closers, Proflo toilets, Metcraft lavatory, Regency stainless steel commercial sinks, AO Smith water heater, Lithonia lighting, Elkay drinking fountains, and tongue and groove decking.

Restroom Pavilion Concession Building

Stefanik’s Next Generation Contracting Co. installed the restroom and concession building at Hamilton Park for Castle Shannon Borough.

Stefanik’s Next Generation Contracting Co. is a full-service commercial, industrial and municipal excavating, utility, geotechnical and site development contractor based in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.

The new restroom and concession building will allow Castle Shannon to host large community events like movie nights, city concerts or gatherings, along with hosting sporting events or tournaments at their fields and sports courts.

The borough of Castle Shannon was happy with the Romtec finished product as the building is a centerpiece of the park, and provides concession windows, a large covered group gathering space, restrooms, and storage space.

The restroom and concession building is perfect for hosting large community events, sports, concerts, and other community gatherings like movies in the park. It was great to partner with LSSE and Stefanik’s Next Generation Contracting Co. To bring this project to life for the Castle Shannon Borough and Hamilton Park.

That Memorial Park Project is one of our favorites too – it truly made a positive impact for our visitors, and we will continue to keep Romtec in mind as opportunities to collaborate come up!

I have to mention that aside from the products Romtec supplies and the workmanship of the subcontractors (Ken and crew), I’m also very impressed with your responsiveness to issues – you’re a far cry from the usual taillight warranty.

You get what you pay for. Romtec provided the most perfect, seamless, flawless project I could have imagined. I would use Romtec 100 times over and will not consider any other options moving forward. You were able to beat my original budget and expectations. Everyone involved was great from sales to construction management, to the construction team themselves.

If I were to do this again, I would no doubt hire Romtec and its subcontractors to do the installation. Hindsight is always 20/20 and I learned a valuable lesson that I will hire Romtec’s certified installers to do the construction.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Dan Keagy (Romtec’s assistant construction manager). He in my opinion went above and beyond to solve our problems and problems that were not necessarily his or Romtec’s to solve. He is a great guy and great resource for Romtec. Overall, the biggest thing to me was the service after the sale. Romtec didn’t just make the sale and move on, but they supported us through a very long and arduous construction process.

Romtec was phenomenal when it came to service after the sale. They were available anytime there were questions. In addition, there were some issues with missing materials. Even though it was not Romtec’s fault for the missing materials, the were more than willing to send us the missing materials to get the project done. Romtec even sent out a representative to tour the site to give firsthand recommendations on how to proceed.
