Metaline Falls, Washington – Hydroelectric Dam Lookout Restroom

For this hydroelectric dam lookout restroom, we partnered with Seattle City Light to provide an ADA double restroom building that matched the historic Vista House that overlooks the Boundary Dam and the Pend Oreille River. We designed this hydroelectric dam lookout restroom with architectural styling to match the Vista House, including using cedar siding, cedar base board, and cedar fascia to blend in seamlessly with its natural surroundings.

We have worked with Seattle City Light on a variety of projects and they came to us needing a double restroom building that matched the historic Vista House. On top of designingsupplying, we also build the restroom as part of our complete turnkey services.

Metaline Falls, Washington is a town in the northeast part of the state near the Canadian border. The Pend Oreille River goes through Metaline Falls, while the town sits in Pend Oreille County.

Historic House Restroom

The Boundary Dam Vista House is a historic building that sits on the cliffs above the east side of the Pend Oreille River overlooking the Boundary Dam. The views from the Vista House are amazing overlooking the river.

The Boundary Dam is a concrete arch gravity-type hydroelectric dam that opened in 1967. Seattle City Light operates the dam which makes up a significant portion of the City of Seattle’s energy portfolio. Seatle City Light is a public utility that provides electricity to Seattle, Washington. The Boundary Powerhouse is located next to the dam inside the rock that makes up the left portion of the dam itself. The dam stands 340 feet tall and has a concrete double curvature arch.

Seattle City Light contacted Romtec directly for the addition of a new double restroom with architectural styling to match the historical Vista House. Seattle City Light purchased the design and supply of the building directly and put the site work and building installation out to bid separately.

Turnkey Restroom Construction

Romtec ended up also providing the installation of the restroom building near the Vista House as part of our turnkey services, where we design, supply, and build the complete restroom project.

Seattle City Light is an owner, a direct customer, and has always been easy to work with. The previous projects with Seattle City Light were Metaline Waterfront Park, Boundary Dam Campground Improvements and Boundary Dam Entrance Roadway Realignment, all of which were completed within the last 5 years.

The Romtec double ADA single user restroom building also has a storage/mechanical room. The building has a Fabral Horizon 16 metal roof, vent boots, cedar fascia, cedar base board, cedar siding over CMU concrete block wall, Steelcraft doors, tongue and groove decking, Hager door closers, ProFlo toilets and lavatories, Molden Stone mop service basin, AO Smith electric water heater, Lithonia lighting, Intermatic photo controls, and Eaton load centers and circuit breakers.

Restroom Matches Historic House

The hydroelectric dam lookout restroom seamlessly matches the historical Vista House which overlooks the dam. The restroom now adds capacity and convenience for visitors who are viewing the outlook over the dam or visiting the Vista House.

The cedar siding and metal roof help this restroom building to blend in with the surrounding trees, mountains, and the river flowing below.

At Romtec we can design, supply, and construct your restroom building to fit your project needs, whether that is a hydroelectric dam lookout restroom or a restroom for a historic house. We can design it to match other buildings, or to fit within a certain identified aesthetic.

We worked within a certain turnaround and timeline as during the winter the access roads are covered in snow for this location. So once spring hit, we had the supply of the building delivered and constructed in a timely manner to meet the project timeline and turnaround. With our coordination, the building was ready in time for the busy visitor season, during the summer and fall.

Romtec was able to make this turnaround possible by working ahead on the planning and procurement of items.

If you have a restroom project need for a hydroelectric dam or a historic house like the Vista House in Metaline Falls, Washington, we can design, supply, and construct your next restroom building that will fit your projects needs, whether that’s a large restroom, a trailhead vaulted restroom, or a double single user restroom like that for the Vista House.

I have to mention that aside from the products Romtec supplies and the workmanship of the subcontractors (Ken and crew), I’m also very impressed with your responsiveness to issues – you’re a far cry from the usual taillight warranty.

You get what you pay for. Romtec provided the most perfect, seamless, flawless project I could have imagined. I would use Romtec 100 times over and will not consider any other options moving forward. You were able to beat my original budget and expectations. Everyone involved was great from sales to construction management, to the construction team themselves.

If I were to do this again, I would no doubt hire Romtec and its subcontractors to do the installation. Hindsight is always 20/20 and I learned a valuable lesson that I will hire Romtec’s certified installers to do the construction.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Dan Keagy (Romtec’s assistant construction manager). He in my opinion went above and beyond to solve our problems and problems that were not necessarily his or Romtec’s to solve. He is a great guy and great resource for Romtec. Overall, the biggest thing to me was the service after the sale. Romtec didn’t just make the sale and move on, but they supported us through a very long and arduous construction process.

Romtec was phenomenal when it came to service after the sale. They were available anytime there were questions. In addition, there were some issues with missing materials. Even though it was not Romtec’s fault for the missing materials, the were more than willing to send us the missing materials to get the project done. Romtec even sent out a representative to tour the site to give firsthand recommendations on how to proceed.
