In the Central City Park project, Romtec worked with the City of Fontana for the design and supply of three matching buildings for Central City Park in Fontana, California.
Central City Park was opened to the public in May of 2021, and is a 14.5-acre, deluxe sports park that “will create recreational opportunities for thousands of young soccer and football players in the years to come”. The Park features two large synthetic turf fields designated for soccer and football, and an additional synthetic turf field designated for soccer only. In addition to the sports fields, the park also includes horseshoe pits, an ADA accessible playground, and a community garden. (Ingold, 2021)
With all these amenities, Central City Park is certain to be a popular area for the community. Romtec worked with the City of Fontana for the design and supply of three structures to be installed before the grand opening of the park, including a restroom and concession structure, a 30’x20’ storage facility, and an additional utility/storage building for the community garden.
The restroom building includes multi-user Men’s and Women’s restrooms with the facilities for 5 guests, a mechanical space for access to plumbing, a storage room, and a concession stand with a 3 basin sink and concession door. The Park is expected to have a high amount of foot traffic, especially during events, so it was important to design a multi-functional facility that would be able to serve the guests during their visit into the park and provide guests with refreshments during sporting events on hot summer days.
To create a unified theme throughout the park, all three buildings feature a matching design. The structures are composed of a gray, split face block with a stone veneer wainscot. The door frames, doors, and vents set in the block are all powder-coated black to provide a clean and professional finish that is resistant to damage from weather or vandalism. In addition to the durable block and powder-coated components, the metal roofing on this structure is also resistant to damage from weather and is an attractive and friendly evergreen shade.
As one of the newest parks in Fontana, the Central City Park has been designed with a wide range of interests and needs in mind. With the addition of this park, the City of Fontana has invested heavily in the health and wellbeing of its community, and provided ample opportunities for residents to get outdoors, engage in sports, and connect with others.
