This project is for the City of Tupelo as a part of their overall Tupelo Parks Improvements project. Tupelo, Mississippi is a city in the northeast part of the state known as the birthplace of Elvis Presley. There are many statues of the legendary music icon around the city, including the Elvis Presley Birthplace Museum, which provides information about his childhood and music history.
Interstate 22 goes through Tupelo connecting it with Memphis, Tennessee to the northwest and Birmingham, Alabama to the southeast.
Tupelo is the county seat of Lee County and had a population of 37,923 as of the 2020 census making it the 7th most populous city in Mississippi.
Some of the attractions in Tupelo include the Elvis Presley Birthplace House, Tupelo Buffalo Park & Zoo, Tupelo National Battlefield, Tombigbee Lake State Park, Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor Center, Cadence Bank Arena, Tupelo Memorial Park, Veterans Park, Ballard Park, Chickasaw Village Site, Tupelo Aquatic Center, Tupelo Country Club, Bel Air Golf Course, and the Eastwood Softball Complex.
The Tupelo Parks Improvements project was introduced to us by Sloan Landscape Architecture, who is a new customer to Romtec. The park improvement project consists of replacing three park restroom buildings at Hancock, Gumtree, and Ballard Park.
Sloan Landscape Architecture is a professionally licensed landscape architect located in Tupelo, MS. Services include planning and design for a broad range of projects.
This project is for the City of Tupelo as a part of their overall Tupelo Parks Improvements project. The three existing parks have structures that will be demolished by the bidding contractors and the Romtec buildings will be installed.
Gumtree Park is a park with athletic fields, open space, picnic areas, two covered basketball courts, parking lot, field lights, and a playground.
Hancock Park has open green areas, paved paths, a playground, picnic pavilion, benches, basketball courts, and parking lot. Hancock is getting a new prefabricated pavilion, shade covers for the basketball court, and new restrooms as part of the Tupelo Park Improvements.
Sloan Landscape shared existing buildings at the parks and wanted an upgraded version of the structures based on the Romtec Old Cedar Trailhead project.
For this particular project, the Gumtree Park and Hancock Park improvement restroom buildings featured a single slope roof with a covered area, along with multiuser restrooms, and a mechanical room. There are slight differences in the designs.
The buildings feature glulam rafters, glulam beams, glulam posts, fiber cement lap siding, stone veneer over CMU smooth face concrete block wall, architectural composition roofing, vent boots, drinking fountains, and a covered picnic area.
M&N Construction LLC is the general contractor who installed the new restroom building at Gumtree Park on behalf of the City of Tupelo. M&N Construction LLC is based in Tupelo, Mississippi and works on commercial, municipal, and medical construction projects in the region.
Romtec was pleased to provide the restroom and pavilion extensions for Gumtree Park and Hancock Park for the City of Tupelo as part of their park improvements.
We were able to closely match the buildings between the two parks, so they had similar designs and aesthetics, as they wanted to mimic the Old Cedar Trailhead project. Romtec was able to deliver on these design features and create a covered pavilion space along with the attached restroom building.
Romtec was happy to partner with Sloan Landscape Architecture and M&N Construction, two local companies in Tupelo, MS, to bring this project to life at these upgraded parks.
Parks are often looking to match buildings or match an aesthetic to create the same look across their park system. This also helps with maintenance and upkeep by having similar types of buildings built around the same timeline.
