The Project
The City of Oakland, California, owns a city-operated stable. They required a restroom facility available for all those using the stable and also needed a non-packaged concession room for food sales during shows and equestrian events held at the stable arena. The concession room needed to be a fairly big size as they would be serving not only pre-packaged foods and beverages, but also prepared foods such as hot dogs, nachos, a soda machine, and more. The restroom concession building needed to blend with the community and have a rustic and western flair to it. It needed to be durable, inviting, easy to clean and maintain, with commercial grade appurtenances able to withstand heavy and consistent usage. The concession room had to meet all California and local Health Department codes for prepared food service, but not full food service with cooking services.
The Solution
Romtec designed for the City of Oakland’s stable project two unisex single-user restrooms with a large concession room on the other side. Part of the concession area is a roomy storage area. The designers presented a cedar board and batten exterior with a very light stain to give the western feel they were looking for and The City accepted the proposed ideas. Romtec provided a hot-water heater and hand wash sink for the concession area. They also used commercial grade fixtures that are also family friendly. The single user restrooms, lockable from the inside, allow for use by any gender, and help to ensure the facilities are utilized to their fullest capacity at any time. The building has the inviting ‘homey’ feel that The City was looking for in a stable restroom concession facility. It is bright and inviting and exceeded the requirements set forth by The City.
