Richland, Washington School Control Building

For this school control building, Romtec was able to partner with the engineer, PBS Engineering, to provide a control building that will hold pumping equipment for a new irrigation system at a school in Richland, Washington.

We worked with the Richland School District, who needed the school control building at Chief Joseph Middle School, as they have many large athletic fields. The middle school control building is going to hold two electrical control boxes and two VFSs for a small pump (irrigation) system. The school district utilized the KCDA purchasing cooperative for Washington State schools to purchase the control building from Romtec.

The control building has split face concrete block wall, a single slope roof, wall vents, and temperature control systems to regulate the temperature during varying conditions. We partnered with PBS Engineering before on a project that also included a control building, so this was another project that we were able to design and supply a school storage building for the customer.

School Storage Building

Richland School District wanted to direct purchase a Romtec control building model 2640 for the Chief Joseph Middle School to house two electrical control boxes and two VFDs for a small pump system. The end owner will be the City of Richland and the structure was purchases by the Richland School district using KCDA. The project went out to bid for the installation with an owner supplied Romtec building.

The pump system and control building are a new application for the school and will support an irrigation system on school grounds.

PBS (PBS Engineering & Environmental Inc.) is a civil engineer who has worked with Romtec Utilities on previous projects including Columbia Palisades and the control building. Romtec Utilities referred PBS to Romtec for assistance in the control building model 2640 for design and supply only for a direct purchase through KCDA.

The Romtec model 2640 control building features CMU split face concrete block wall, single slope metal roof, wall vents, and a wall mounted ERV system air exchange with exhaust and heated air intake.

This is a simple control building that will be temperature controlled to protect the equipment therein.

Richland School District was a first-time customer of Romtec and Siefken & Sons Construction, Inc. was a first-time installer that did a great job on the model 2604 equipment building.

I have to mention that aside from the products Romtec supplies and the workmanship of the subcontractors (Ken and crew), I’m also very impressed with your responsiveness to issues – you’re a far cry from the usual taillight warranty.

You get what you pay for. Romtec provided the most perfect, seamless, flawless project I could have imagined. I would use Romtec 100 times over and will not consider any other options moving forward. You were able to beat my original budget and expectations. Everyone involved was great from sales to construction management, to the construction team themselves.

If I were to do this again, I would no doubt hire Romtec and its subcontractors to do the installation. Hindsight is always 20/20 and I learned a valuable lesson that I will hire Romtec’s certified installers to do the construction.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Dan Keagy (Romtec’s assistant construction manager). He in my opinion went above and beyond to solve our problems and problems that were not necessarily his or Romtec’s to solve. He is a great guy and great resource for Romtec. Overall, the biggest thing to me was the service after the sale. Romtec didn’t just make the sale and move on, but they supported us through a very long and arduous construction process.

Romtec was phenomenal when it came to service after the sale. They were available anytime there were questions. In addition, there were some issues with missing materials. Even though it was not Romtec’s fault for the missing materials, the were more than willing to send us the missing materials to get the project done. Romtec even sent out a representative to tour the site to give firsthand recommendations on how to proceed.
