Turnkey Park Restroom Buildings for Rockaway Beach, OR

Romtec was contacted for two turnkey park restroom buildings for Wayside Park and Anchor Street Park in Rockaway Beach, Oregon. Rockaway Beach is a city on the northern Oregon Coast boasting many wild and scenic spaces.

Rockaway is in Tillamook County and had a population of 1,441 as of the 2020 census.

The Oregon Coast Highway also known as U.S. Highway 101 runs through Rockaway Beach connecting it with the rest of the Oregon Coast.

The city is home to the Rockaway Beach Old Growth Cedar Preserve, a 46-acre wetland preserve with an elevated walkway featuring a large cedar tree estimated to be hundreds of years old.

The coastal city sits about 85 miles west of Portland while being close to many other popular coastal destinations. Rockaway Beach was connected to Portland by train in 1912.

Some other recreational destinations in Rockaway Beach include the Manhattan Beach State Recreation Site, Lake Lytle, Nehalem Bay State Park, Rockaway Big Tree Trailhead, Phyllis Baker City Park, Seaview City Park, Old Oregon Smoke House, Grumpy’s Cafe, Sand Dollar Restaurant & Lounge, Twin Rocks Turnaround, and The Original Pronto Pup.

There are two local parks called Rockaway Beach Wayside Park and Rockaway Beach Anchor Street Park at which Romtec provided turnkey restroom buildings for the city.

Rockaway Beach Anchor Street Park

HBH Consulting Engineers was a first-time engineer and project driver for Romtec who contacted us about the Wayside Park project.

The replacement restroom building is a 6-PAK with upgrades for the coastal climate and for year-round usage. The City of Rockaway Beach will own the restroom at Wayside Park, but the property is owned by Oregon State Parks.

Romtec worked through the design options checklist and building layout options with HBH and the City of Rockaway Beach to develop the basis of design for the restrooms for these projects. Knife River was the general contractor, but Romtec installed the buildings providing turnkey services to the City of Rockaway Beach.

Located right off of Highway 101, Wayside Park is adjacent to the beach and Sand Dollar Restaurant providing a place for people to access the Pacific Ocean.

The six single user unisex restroom building at Wayside Park features a mechanical room, metal roofing, fiber cement lap siding over CMU concrete block wall, and vent boots all designed to weather the coastal conditions.

We were later introduced to the Anchor Street Park Project through HBH and the City of Rockaway Beach.

Rockaway Beach Wayside Park

The Anchor Street Park Project is a new park being developed with a paved parking lot, an event site, a picnic area, a play structure, restrooms, and EV charging stations.

The restroom building is a double single user with upgrades on the exterior, for the coastal climate, and for year-round usage. The City of Rockaway Beach will own the restroom at Anchor Street Park.

The two-unit unisex restroom building features a mechanical room, single slope metal roof, fiber cement lap siding over CMU concrete block wall, tongue and groove ceiling finish, and steel framed windows that make it an appealing park structure.

Both restrooms purposely have similar appearances to maintain the aesthetic.

Romtec was pleased to provide the design, supply, and installation of these two restroom buildings for the City of Rockaway Beach in partnership with HBH Consulting Engineers.

HBH is a civil engineering firm providing high quality, cost-effective, and innovative solutions for customers and is based in Newberg, Oregon.

Romtec can design a restroom building that fits your park’s needs while also catering materials to a specific climate that will help ensure the building has a long life.

That Memorial Park Project is one of our favorites too – it truly made a positive impact for our visitors, and we will continue to keep Romtec in mind as opportunities to collaborate come up!

I have to mention that aside from the products Romtec supplies and the workmanship of the subcontractors (Ken and crew), I’m also very impressed with your responsiveness to issues – you’re a far cry from the usual taillight warranty.

You get what you pay for. Romtec provided the most perfect, seamless, flawless project I could have imagined. I would use Romtec 100 times over and will not consider any other options moving forward. You were able to beat my original budget and expectations. Everyone involved was great from sales to construction management, to the construction team themselves.

If I were to do this again, I would no doubt hire Romtec and its subcontractors to do the installation. Hindsight is always 20/20 and I learned a valuable lesson that I will hire Romtec’s certified installers to do the construction.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Dan Keagy (Romtec’s assistant construction manager). He in my opinion went above and beyond to solve our problems and problems that were not necessarily his or Romtec’s to solve. He is a great guy and great resource for Romtec. Overall, the biggest thing to me was the service after the sale. Romtec didn’t just make the sale and move on, but they supported us through a very long and arduous construction process.

Romtec was phenomenal when it came to service after the sale. They were available anytime there were questions. In addition, there were some issues with missing materials. Even though it was not Romtec’s fault for the missing materials, the were more than willing to send us the missing materials to get the project done. Romtec even sent out a representative to tour the site to give firsthand recommendations on how to proceed.
