Coopers Landing is a census-designated area on the Kenai Peninsula Borough in Alaska. Coopers Landing sits about 100 miles south of Anchorage, Alaska, which is the largest city in the state.
The town sits on the edge of the Kenai Lake that empties into the Kenai River which is a popular salmon fishery. Coopers Landing is located along State Route 1. The area was started in the 19th century by gold and mineral miners and has since become a popular summer tourist destination because of the views.
The area is surrounded by beautiful Alaskan mountains including Cecil Rhode Mountain. Quartz Creek Campground sits on the northwest edge of Kenai Lake and provides RV camping opportunities. There is the Russian River Campground and Russian River Falls which can be accessed by a trailhead. Cooper Lake along with an Upper and Lower Russian Lake are in the area as well.
The Chugach National Forest is a nearly 7-million-acre forest in southern Alaska. This national forest has many glaciers, lakes, forests, and rivers that provide great outdoor recreation opportunities. The forest covers parts of the Prince William Sound, the Kenai Peninsula, and the Copper River Delta.
The forest covers Coopers Landing where Romtec was asked by the USDA Forest Service to provide three restroom buildings. The Chugach National Forest is managed by the USDA Forest Service.
It might be tempting to believe that these photos are of the same building, but they are three identical waterless restroom buildings built in different areas of the Chugach National Forest surrounding Cooper’s Landing, AK.
Romtec designed these buildings to maintain a consistent style throughout the park and the other regions under USDAFS management. Aside from looking good, the cedar siding on these vault restrooms provides excellent durability and insulation during the severe Alaskan winters. Cedar shake roofing, vent pipes, and roof extensions all add to these restroom buildings.
Romtec designs, supplies, and builds restroom buildings that can match other buildings, meet a certain aesthetic, or are identical such as what we did for this Chugach National Forest project near Coopers Landing.
