Chattanooga, Tennessee – Park Restroom Facilities

The park restroom facilities at Enterprise South Nature Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee, have been developed over time to support the park’s continued expansion and growth. Through multiple phases, Hamilton County has expanded restroom access across the park, starting with waterless facilities and progressing to the development of a modern plumbed restroom and shower building.

Enterprise South Nature Park and Hamilton County

Enterprise South Nature Park is a large outdoor recreation area that supports hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, and many other outdoor recreation activities. As daily visitor use continues to grow, the demand for more reliable and functional amenities has increased.

Hamilton County has addressed this need through a long-term approach to infrastructure, implementing multiple park restroom facilities across the site. These buildings are strategically located to serve different areas of the park, improving accessibility for visitors and supporting a wide range of recreational uses throughout.

Project Overview: Multi-Phase Restroom Development

The park restroom infrastructure at Enterprise South Nature Park has been developed in multiple phases, each building upon the last to improve functionality and expand restroom access in the park.

Initial Installations (2012)

In 2012, two waterless vault restrooms were installed at the park. These facilities provided the first level of restroom access within the park, offering a durable and low-maintenance solution suited for early park development and the outdoor conditions.

These initial restroom buildings established a strong foundation for reliable amenities as park use began to increase.

Expansion Phase (2017)

As visitor traffic grew, two additional vault restrooms were added in 2017 to expand coverage across the park. These additional park restroom facilities improved accessibility for users in different locations, reducing travel distance to restroom areas and supporting higher visitor volumes.

The continued use of waterless restrooms in this phase maintained consistency and durability, while still addressing the increased demand for restrooms.

Current Development: Restroom and Shower Facility

The most recent phase includes a new plumbed park restroom and shower facility that will introduce expanded amenities to the park. This building will include both restrooms and showers, bringing a higher level of service to visitors who want to spend extended amounts of time engaging in recreational activities in the park.

This facility will complement the existing vault restrooms by providing an upgraded option in a centralized location. As part of the overall park restroom infrastructure, the new building will greatly enhance the range of amenities available throughout the park without replacing the existing installations.

Restroom and Shower Building Design

The new restroom and shower facility is designed to smoothly integrate into the already existing restroom facilities while also introducing new amenities to the park. As a restroom and shower building, it will provide enhanced amenities, while maintaining the durability required for outdoor environments.

Key design elements will include:

  • Durable construction, specifically designed to support long-term use
  • An integrated plumbing system to support both restrooms and showers
  • Fixtures chosen for reliability and ease of maintenance
  • Ventilation designed for both restroom and shower areas
  • A layout that is both accessible and private for users

This structure will serve as an upgrade to the broader restroom system by offering features that aren’t available in the existing, traditional vault restrooms.

Project Coordination and Implementation

Each phase of the restroom development at Enterprise South Nature Park has been coordinated alongside Hamilton County to align with the park’s growth and evolving needs.

The earlier vault restroom buildings were installed to ensure coverage across the park, while the current development phase will expand the system with a plumbed facility that brings additional functionality to the park. This phased approach allows the park restroom facilities to grow alongside increasing visitor demand, while remaining consistent.
