Sahuarita, Arizona – Splash Pad Building

A new splash pad building at Anamax Park in Sahuarita, Arizona, provides a multi-functional facility designed to support both park visitors and splash pad operations. This splash pad facility combines public restrooms, showers, and a mechanical/storage space into one structure. This approach creates a practical solution in a high-use recreation area while supporting the needs of a new splash pad installation within an established community park.

Anamax Park is an established park in Sahuarita’s community and includes a variety of recreational amenities, including sports fields, playgrounds, trails, and open-use areas. To expand available activities and improve usability during hotter seasons, the Town of Sahuarita introduced a new splash pad as part of ongoing park improvements.

The addition of the splash pad greatly enhances the park’s ability to serve families and residents, particularly during the warmer months. As a repeat Romtec client, the Town worked with Romtec to create a splash pad building that would support both visitor convenience and splash pad operational needs. This project represents an expansion of an existing park, integrating new features into a well-used community space while maintaining efficient park operations.

The goal of this project was to design a splash pad building that supports multiple functions within one facility. The resulting building includes restrooms, showers, and a large mechanical room used to house and operate equipment for the splash pad. Romtec worked directly with the Town of Sahuarita throughout the design process to define the building layout and select appropriate features. Because the Town was already familiar with Romtec, the process of establishing the design was relatively straightforward.

A key component of the design was incorporating enough storage and mechanical space to house all splash pad equipment within one structure. This eliminated the need for a separate equipment building and allowed all splash pad operations to remain centralized in one splash pad support building.

One of the most recognizable projects in Huntington Beach is the collection of retail buildings located on the popular Huntington Beach Pier. These structures serve one of the city’s most visible public destinations and are frequented by both residents and tourists throughout the year.

Romtec designed and supplied custom retail buildings that complement the architectural style of the existing pier structures. Unlike traditional park buildings, these facilities required a specialized design approach, including unique geometry that matched an existing hexagonal structure on the pier.

The buildings feature large display windows, open merchandising areas, and sliding doors that improve accessibility and functionality. These highly customized public facilities demonstrate how city park buildings can be adapted to support tourism and commercial activity while maintaining a cohesive design aesthetic.

The project was coordinated directly with the Town of Sahuarita. As a repeat customer, the Town was familiar with the process of working with Romtec, which allowed for efficient communication and decision-making during the design process.

Coordination focused on finalizing the building layout, selecting key features, and ensuring that the splash pad facility would support the needs of both visitors and staff. Following design confirmation, the project moved forward into production planning alongside the overall park improvement efforts occurring at Anamax Park.

This project was completed for the Town of Sahuarita, with ABLA Studio supporting landscape design and assisting with the overall site layout. Gothic Landscape served as the general contractor, while A5 Des+ Con performed installation of the splash pad building.
