Hawk Hill required a double vault restroom with matching exterior for this historic site. Hawk Hill is a 923-foot peak in Sausalito, California providing breathtaking views overlooking the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Hawk Hill is great for watching thousands of hawks, eagles, falcons, and vultures as they fly above during their annual fall migration. There are various trails that sweep around the hill providing different vantage points of the Pacific Ocean, San Francisco, and the Bay. It served as the location for two Nike nuclear missile defensive sites during the Cold War until 1971. The hill is a part of the Marin Headlands which became a coast artillery battery to protect the Bay during World War II by the United States Army.
Golden Gate National Recreation Area has worked with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy to revitalize Hawk Hill since 2011 with various projects to preserve the site.
The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is the owner of this project that included providing a double vault restroom buried into the side of a hill to match other World War II bunkers that are throughout Hawk Hill.
Preservation Architecture was the landscape architect who designed the vault restroom that Romtec supplied as a “Turnkey” project.
Northwind Construction was the general contractor while Romtec installed the vault restrooms.
At Romtec, we were thrilled to be a part of this project in such a historic place that provides some of the best views in the San Francisco Bay area.
