Pulaski Park – South Bend, IN

The City of South Bend, Indiana has invested over $18 million to upgrade their parks to improve the lives of their residents. This massive endeavor, known as “My SB Parks & Trails”, includes over 30 parks, trails, and public recreation sites that will be upgraded to better suit the needs of park visitors.

The budget for “My SB Parks & Trails” was maximized by outside grants and partnerships that provided $12 million in funding, allowing the City of South Bend Venues, Parks, and Arts department to invest in the future of their parks. Pulaski Park is one of the many parks included in this large renovation, and Romtec was brought in to help.

The Pulaski Park Improvements project was brought to Romtec by the Troyer Group, an Engineering firm with offices in Michigan and Indiana. Romtec’s task was to produce a restroom building for Pulaski Park, which we were able to supply to Larson –Danielson Construction for installation on site.

Outdoor Bathroom Design

The Romtec supplied restroom features two unisex bathrooms, compliant with the American Disability Act (ADA) guidelines. Providing ADA compliant restrooms allows greater access to the parks for visitors of all abilities. The two unisex restrooms are on the face of the building, with a mechanical room at the back for storage and easy access to piping for maintenance.

The building is composed of split face block in gray with mesh, wire weave gable vents set in the block above the entrance to each restroom. The roofing is Charcoal Gray Horizon S Roofing from Fabral, providing a sturdy roof that is easy to install and maintain. A roof extension on the face of the building provides shelter from sun or rain when entering or exiting the restrooms.

Inside each restroom are stainless steel, wall mount fixtures that are hardy and suitable for high-use environments. The strength of these stainless steel fixtures ensures that the restrooms will be resistant to vandalism and reduce necessary maintenance and/or repairs.

In addition to the Romtec supplied restroom, Pulaski Park also underwent numerous upgrades including a new paved parking lot, a comfort station, ADA accessible paths, a splash feature, an irrigated soccer field, landscaping and trees, and new signage.

Pulaski Park has undergone massive changes and upgrades. This fully renovated park is just one of the numerous projects in “My SB Parks & Trails” and is sure to be enjoyed by guests and families. The City of South Bend will have most of the projects in “My SB Parks & Trails” completed by the end of 2020, with all projects being completed within 5 years for visitors to enjoy.

The City of South Bend has made an incredible investment and contribution to their community, and their dedication to their city is admirable. The Troyer Group and Larson-Danielson Construction Co. have contributed their hard work to bring this project along, and Romtec has enjoyed the opportunity to work with them to enhance Pulaski Park.

That Memorial Park Project is one of our favorites too – it truly made a positive impact for our visitors, and we will continue to keep Romtec in mind as opportunities to collaborate come up!

I have to mention that aside from the products Romtec supplies and the workmanship of the subcontractors (Ken and crew), I’m also very impressed with your responsiveness to issues – you’re a far cry from the usual taillight warranty.

You get what you pay for. Romtec provided the most perfect, seamless, flawless project I could have imagined. I would use Romtec 100 times over and will not consider any other options moving forward. You were able to beat my original budget and expectations. Everyone involved was great from sales to construction management, to the construction team themselves.

If I were to do this again, I would no doubt hire Romtec and its subcontractors to do the installation. Hindsight is always 20/20 and I learned a valuable lesson that I will hire Romtec’s certified installers to do the construction.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Dan Keagy (Romtec’s assistant construction manager). He in my opinion went above and beyond to solve our problems and problems that were not necessarily his or Romtec’s to solve. He is a great guy and great resource for Romtec. Overall, the biggest thing to me was the service after the sale. Romtec didn’t just make the sale and move on, but they supported us through a very long and arduous construction process.

Romtec was phenomenal when it came to service after the sale. They were available anytime there were questions. In addition, there were some issues with missing materials. Even though it was not Romtec’s fault for the missing materials, the were more than willing to send us the missing materials to get the project done. Romtec even sent out a representative to tour the site to give firsthand recommendations on how to proceed.
