Johnston is a city in Iowa about 10 miles northwest of Des Moines, the capital of the state.
The City of Johnston is in Polk County with a population of about 24,000 people and sits within the Des Moines Metropolitan Area. Camp Dodge, a military reservation, is located in Johnston.
The Des Moines River runs through the city and provides recreational opportunities like Sycamore Park and Johnston Soccer Complex.
Not far from the Des Moines River is Johnston Commons Park which is a 14-acre neighborhood park near the local library. The Johnston Commons is the location of the Johnston Public Library, Simpson Barn, and Johnston Station Historical Society (museum).
The park is home to a basketball court, soccer fields, a playground, picnic tables, grassy areas, two small ponds, and a shelter.
The owner of Johnston Commons Park is the City of Johnston who requested a Romtec restroom building with a roof extension.
The Model 1621 Romtec restroom features two unisex single user restrooms, a family room, a mechanical room, a 24′ roof extension, stainless steel counter, limestone siding, fiber cement lap siding, and a standing seam metal roof.
The landscape architect was Snyder & Associates who was the project driver for this project. The owner and Snyder & Associates worked directly with Romtec to select the options for the building and approve the layout and design requirements. Snyder is a civil engineer with an office in Iowa.
Lansink Construction was the general contractor who built the building for the City of Johnston. Lansink is a general contractor based out of Johnston, Iowa.
Romtec was happy to provide the design and supply of this unique restroom building with a roof extension that provides shelter for a picnic area that can be used as an event space or for parties. Romtec designed this building to match the beautiful surrounding area that is Johnston Commons Park.
