Replacement Multi-user Restroom at Givens District Recreation Center – Austin, TX

Interstate 35 runs through Austin connecting it with the region including San Antonio which is about 80 miles to the southwest. It’s home to the University of Texas flagship campus. The population of Austin was 961,855 at the 2020 census making it the tenth most populous city in the U.S.
There are a variety of great parks and lakes in Austin that provide hiking, walking, and recreational opportunities. Some of the main attractions in Austin include Zilker Metropolitan Park, McKinney Falls State Park, Barton Springs Municipal Pool, Bullock Texas State History Museum, Lady Bird Lake, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Blanton Museum of Art, Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve, and the Colorado River flowing through the city.
Givens District Recreation Center has been serving Austin since 1979 which features a 40-acre park and recreation center that has an outdoor pool, tennis courts, softball fields, playgrounds, and picnic areas.
The center was named in honor of Dr. Everett H. Givens who was a dentist, World War I veteran, and beloved civic leader. The Givens Recreation Center follows in Dr. Givens footsteps providing opportunities for everyone in Austin to access programs and services with access to recreational facilities including a full-size gymnasium, multipurpose room, kitchen facility, weight room, and game room/lobby.
The recreation center offers programs for people of all ages and holiday events for the community. The large park grounds are home to the Martin Banks Pavilion, two lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, picnic tables, playscape, multipurpose field, and a softball field.

There were various updates made to the park including the replacement of a small restroom south of the recreation center with a new, larger, accessible restroom, adjacent to a new plaza with shaded picnic seating and an accessible walkway that will connect to the recreation center. The update included the replacement of an under-utilized ball field with a multi-purpose field including new fencing and field lighting.
Romtec provided the new multi-user restroom which replaced an existing smaller restroom. The Romtec custom 2080 Sierra IV restroom features a custom cover entry, mechanical room, metal roof, roof overhang, skylights, wire mesh gable vents, privacy wall, and CMU concrete block wall siding.
The City of Austin owns and maintains the park and worked with Romtec on the design and purchase of the restroom building.
The installing contractor was Paradigm Contracting, who built the restroom on behalf of the City of Austin. Paradigm Contracting is based in Austin, Texas and provides construction services in Travis County for playgrounds, recreation facilities, and park design.
