Millenia Park – Chula Vista, CA

The Millenia park project is located in Chula Vista, California, and consists of a custom Romtec restroom building and a matching trash enclosure. Developed by Meridian DevelopmentMillenia is described on their website as a “completely walkable community” touting environmental friendliness and a healthier lifestyle.

The Engineer on this project, Kimley-Horn and Associates, has worked with Romtec Utilities on numerous projects in the past, including the Alyce Gereaux Park Renovation, the MLK park, and the Kimball Park & El Toyon project.

For Meridian Park, Romtec supplied a restroom building consisting of 3 individual unisex restrooms, a mechanical room, and a covered area. The restrooms are located on the face of this structure with the mechanical room along the back of the restrooms. The entrances to the mechanical room feature a door on the side of the structure, and a rolling door on the opposite side.

The side profile of this building features an inverted slope, with the roofing sloping down towards the middle of the structure and the back of the mechanical room, before sloping back up over the covered area.

On the exterior, the walls of the restroom and mechanical room are composed of smooth face block in gray, precision block in cool gray, and burnished block in black. These 3 different blocks are arranged in a custom pattern, giving the structure a unique look.

The roofing on this structure is metal roofing in Charcoal Grey, and the doors and doorframes are powder-coated grey to remain consistent with the buildings’ color palette. Metal roofing is already a durable roofing material, and on this structure the roofing has been coated with Iko Stormshield Ice and Water Protector to further protect the roofing and reduce maintenance.

The restrooms are American Disability Act (ADA) compliant and feature hardy stainless steel fixtures that are well-suited for high use environments. Push button faucets on the sink make it easier for users of all abilities to wash their hands, and a hand dryer eliminates both the waste and potential mess of paper-towels. Each restroom also comes equipped with a baby changing station to give parents a convenient and private place to tend to their children.

Entry to the mechanical room can be through the door on one side, or the metal rolling door on the opposite side. The metal rolling door provides better ability to store larger maintenance tools and supplies that may not fit through an ordinary doorway.

Behind the mechanical room is the covered area where guests can relax in the shade and get a cool drink of water. On the outside of the mechanical room, a blue dual, wall-mounted water fountain allows guests to hydrate and get a moment out of the sun.

In addition to the restroom, a matching Romtec trash enclosure was also supplied. This fixture is composed of the same block, block pattern, and roofing as the restroom, giving the two structures a unified color scheme. This structure will help keep the trash corralled and out of sight, and the doors can be padlocked for added security.

Millenia Park is just one of the parks that Meridian has planned for Millenia. In their vision, this development will have parks within walking distance of all residents. In the end, the Romtec supplied structures will be owned and maintained by the City of Chula Vista.

That Memorial Park Project is one of our favorites too – it truly made a positive impact for our visitors, and we will continue to keep Romtec in mind as opportunities to collaborate come up!

I have to mention that aside from the products Romtec supplies and the workmanship of the subcontractors (Ken and crew), I’m also very impressed with your responsiveness to issues – you’re a far cry from the usual taillight warranty.

You get what you pay for. Romtec provided the most perfect, seamless, flawless project I could have imagined. I would use Romtec 100 times over and will not consider any other options moving forward. You were able to beat my original budget and expectations. Everyone involved was great from sales to construction management, to the construction team themselves.

If I were to do this again, I would no doubt hire Romtec and its subcontractors to do the installation. Hindsight is always 20/20 and I learned a valuable lesson that I will hire Romtec’s certified installers to do the construction.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Dan Keagy (Romtec’s assistant construction manager). He in my opinion went above and beyond to solve our problems and problems that were not necessarily his or Romtec’s to solve. He is a great guy and great resource for Romtec. Overall, the biggest thing to me was the service after the sale. Romtec didn’t just make the sale and move on, but they supported us through a very long and arduous construction process.

Romtec was phenomenal when it came to service after the sale. They were available anytime there were questions. In addition, there were some issues with missing materials. Even though it was not Romtec’s fault for the missing materials, the were more than willing to send us the missing materials to get the project done. Romtec even sent out a representative to tour the site to give firsthand recommendations on how to proceed.
