Hickory Hill Park is a 185-acre natural area with forest, fields, prairie, wetlands, and parkland on Ralston Creek. The City of Iowa City acquired the park in 1967, which includes trails, picnic sheltersrestrooms, benches, a parking lot, grills, natural areas, and a learning shelter.

The City of Iowa City and Snyder and Associates have used Romtec for years and included another Romtec restroom in the Hickory Hill Park project.

The restroom building is new construction at Hickory Hill Park. This is the “Iowa City” design Romtec has completed on 5-6 other parks including Wetherby Park, Willow Creek ParkCreekside Park, and Chadek Green, Whispering Meadows, & Court Hill Parks Improvements. Committing to a consist design gives the parks system a connecting aesthetic and a specific tone that represents the city.

Romtec sales worked early on with Snyder & Associates and then the city included our plans in the bid documents for the project. The building scope/design was based on all past projects we have completed for the City of Iowa City.

The new restroom building features a single user unisex restroom, a storage room, and a mechanical room. The building has a standing seam metal roof, fiber cement lap siding, resawn cedar ridge and eave beams, a breeze way, cedar support beams, timber posts, and drinking fountains that match features on the previous projects.

Rogers Construction Inc. was the installation contractor of the restroom building. They are a general contractor in Iowa City, Iowa.

All in all, the City of Iowa City, Snyder & Associates has been a great fit together over the years setting their park standards for restrooms and pavilions.

Snyder & Associates is a multidisciplinary civil and structural engineering, planning, and design firm serving clients throughout the Midwest based in Ankeny, Iowa.

This new restroom and storage building for Hickory Hill Park, is another added resource to this beautiful park in Iowa City that serves the community. Romtec was pleased to provide the design and supply of this restroom for the City of Iowa City along with the project driver and civil engineer Snyder & Associates.

Romtec has been pleased to partner with the City of Iowa City to provide restroom buildings that all match with similar features throughout their park and recreation system.

That Memorial Park Project is one of our favorites too – it truly made a positive impact for our visitors, and we will continue to keep Romtec in mind as opportunities to collaborate come up!

I have to mention that aside from the products Romtec supplies and the workmanship of the subcontractors (Ken and crew), I’m also very impressed with your responsiveness to issues – you’re a far cry from the usual taillight warranty.

You get what you pay for. Romtec provided the most perfect, seamless, flawless project I could have imagined. I would use Romtec 100 times over and will not consider any other options moving forward. You were able to beat my original budget and expectations. Everyone involved was great from sales to construction management, to the construction team themselves.

If I were to do this again, I would no doubt hire Romtec and its subcontractors to do the installation. Hindsight is always 20/20 and I learned a valuable lesson that I will hire Romtec’s certified installers to do the construction.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Dan Keagy (Romtec’s assistant construction manager). He in my opinion went above and beyond to solve our problems and problems that were not necessarily his or Romtec’s to solve. He is a great guy and great resource for Romtec. Overall, the biggest thing to me was the service after the sale. Romtec didn’t just make the sale and move on, but they supported us through a very long and arduous construction process.

Romtec was phenomenal when it came to service after the sale. They were available anytime there were questions. In addition, there were some issues with missing materials. Even though it was not Romtec’s fault for the missing materials, the were more than willing to send us the missing materials to get the project done. Romtec even sent out a representative to tour the site to give firsthand recommendations on how to proceed.
