Metaline Water Front Park

Metaline Waterfront Park is upstream of Metaline Falls on the western shore of the Pend Oreille River. This park provides opportunities for boating, picnicking, and other day use activities. It has a boat launch with boarding dock, kayak ramp, parking for trailers, group shelter with a fire pit, picnic tables, playground, and a restroom building.

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) license for the Boundary Dam was renewed in 2013 and part of the requirements for the license were to provide recreational opportunities and activities at the hydroelectric project.

Seattle City Light operates the Boundary Dam which provides power to its customers. Therefore, Seattle City Light preserves and enhances the recreational activities for visitors to the Boundary Project area.

Part of the requirements were to update the current restroom to meet ADA standards or to provide a new ADA compliant restroom at Metaline Park which is in the Boundary Project area. It was more affordable to provide a new restroom building.

Metaline Park is located off the shorelines of Boundary Reservoir which impounds the Pend Oreille River along with Box Canyon Reservoir. Other important aspects of the Metaline Park renovations include updating the boat launch for improved river access and updating the parking lot. A wooden bridge was also added across Linton Creek which runs through the middle of the park.

MacKay Sposito was the project driver as the civil engineer. Romtec worked with MacKay Sposito before on the Trail Bridge Reservoir project. MacKay Sposito provides civil engineering services with an office in Vancouver and Federal Way, Washington.

They wanted the restroom to blend in with the general environment which is mountainous and forested. The Town of Metaline, who will ultimately own the restroom, had to sign off on the final design as well. While the ownership will be handed to the Town of Metaline and the Town will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance. The long-term maintenance and repairs will be the responsibility of Seattle City Light.

The Romtec 2081 Sierra IV multi-user restroom features a porch extension, a mechanical room, board and batten siding over 8″ x 16″ CMU concrete block wall, cultured stone, timber truss, metal roofdrinking fountains, and gable and ridge windows.

Orion Marine Group was the installing contractor of the restroom building on behalf of Seattle City Light and the City of Metaline. Orion Marine Group provides turnkey marine and industrial construction with offices across the U.S.

Romtec was proud to design and supply this restroom building at Metaline Waterfront Park for Seattle City Light and the Town of Metaline. Romtec enhances recreational spaces with warm, inviting restroom buildings that add to the overall user experience at parks all over the country.

I have to mention that aside from the products Romtec supplies and the workmanship of the subcontractors (Ken and crew), I’m also very impressed with your responsiveness to issues – you’re a far cry from the usual taillight warranty.

You get what you pay for. Romtec provided the most perfect, seamless, flawless project I could have imagined. I would use Romtec 100 times over and will not consider any other options moving forward. You were able to beat my original budget and expectations. Everyone involved was great from sales to construction management, to the construction team themselves.

If I were to do this again, I would no doubt hire Romtec and its subcontractors to do the installation. Hindsight is always 20/20 and I learned a valuable lesson that I will hire Romtec’s certified installers to do the construction.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Dan Keagy (Romtec’s assistant construction manager). He in my opinion went above and beyond to solve our problems and problems that were not necessarily his or Romtec’s to solve. He is a great guy and great resource for Romtec. Overall, the biggest thing to me was the service after the sale. Romtec didn’t just make the sale and move on, but they supported us through a very long and arduous construction process.

Romtec was phenomenal when it came to service after the sale. They were available anytime there were questions. In addition, there were some issues with missing materials. Even though it was not Romtec’s fault for the missing materials, the were more than willing to send us the missing materials to get the project done. Romtec even sent out a representative to tour the site to give firsthand recommendations on how to proceed.
